## The four addictions

When a relationship goes off, it looks for a substitute out there. That is an addiction.

- **Body — substances.** Flowing: health, sleep, presence. Off: smoking, drinking, no vitality left.
- **Mind — approval.** Flowing: creativity, identity, decisions. Off: waiting to be picked, masks, a borrowed career.
- **Spirit — external salvation.** Flowing: the unknown, the mystery, flow. Off: the next teacher, retreat, ceremony.
- **Heart — their love.** Flowing: love, intimacy, belonging. Off: codependence, needing to be chosen first.

## The four acts

1. **Forgetting.** You were born into it. Something is wrong with you, and you believed it.
2. **Seeking.** You reached outside. Teachers, medicines, jobs, lovers. It worked, for a while.
3. **Autocorrect.** Life crashed the car. The things you skipped came up.
4. **Remembering.** You stop looking outside. You take the pen back.

Acts one, two and three happen to you. Act four is the only one you do.
